Licensing & Pattern Portal

What is art licensing?

Art licensing is when someone (the “licensee”) rents or borrows art from the owner (the “licensor”). By licensing a piece of art, you are attaining limited usage rights to the piece of art which you can then sell on your own products, depending on the terms of the license.

What is Pattern Portal?

Pattern Portal is my collection of designs available for licensing. I offer a perpetual, unlimited, non-exclusive licensing agreement. Read the full agreement here.

What type of art can I license from you?

Currently, I offer a collection of seamless pattern designs available for licensing.

Where can I find your available designs?

You can find them inside of Pattern Portal! You can license from me directly or purchase my designs on fabric, wallpaper, and home decor. Access Pattern Portal here.

How often do you release new designs? How can I stay up-to-date on new releases?

I release new designs at least once a month, though often more frequently. Subscribe to my email newsletter to be the first to know when new designs are released.

How & for how long can I use a design I license from you?

My licensing contract provides you with a perpetual usage license. You can use the design forever and print it on an unlimited number of commercial products. Read the full licensing agreement for more info.

Who else is able to use the design?

My licensing agreement is non-exclusive. This means other brands and businesses may also purchase a license to the same design. Read the full licensing agreement for more info.

How do I license a design?

You can browse my available collection and start licensing designs immediately through Pattern Portal. Access Pattern Portal here.

Use the categories to narrow down your search. As you find designs you like, add your picks to your cart and check out when you're ready. By purchasing a design, you are agreeing to my Licensing Agreement. Please read it carefully prior to purchase. Each design comes with an unlimited, non-exclusive usage license for you or your organization.

Following your purchase, you will receive a link to download your chosen design(s). If you need any color changes, fill out a Design Change Request form. I’m happy to offer this service free of charge!

If you need any other changes as you work with your manufacturer, you can email me at rachel@showherwork.com and I’ll be happy to assist.

When I license a design, who retains the copyright?

The copyright to any licensed design will remain that of Show Her Work LLC. Read the full licensing agreement for more info.

Do you offer copyright buyouts?

At this time, I do not offer copyright buyouts.

How much does it cost to license a design?

The cost is $150 per design.

Each license comes with the right to print on an unlimited number of products, and is perpetual (use it forever!).

Do you offer exclusive licenses?

At this time, I only offer non-exclusive licenses for my pre-existing designs.

More About My Designs

Are all designs seamless?

Yes! All designs will seamlessly repeat across a surface of any size.

What’s a seamless pattern design? What types of products can I use them on?

A seamless pattern design is a piece of art that repeats seamlessly across an arbitrarily sized surface. The beauty of repeating patterns is that they can be used on anything without needing to make changes to the design itself. You can use them on wallpaper, rugs, notebooks, home decor products, and really anything you can think of. They’ll likely be suitable for any product you sell.

What’s the difference between a vector-based design and raster-based design and which one do you create?

Raster-based designs are created using pixels, while vector-based designs are created using mathematically-defined lines and curves.

The benefit of working with vectors is that they can be scaled infinitely without losing quality and recolored to your exact specifications.

All designs inside Pattern Portal are vector-based so that I can accommodate any of your scale and color requirements.

Do you offer spot illustrations?

If you see a design inside Pattern Portal that you’d like turned into a spot illustration, I can do this as a custom project. Email me at rachel@showherwork.com and let me know so that I can create a proposal for you.

Deliverables & Manufacturing

Do your designs work for all printing methods?

Yes, because my designs are vector-based, they can be printed both digitally and traditionally.

What type of file will I receive?

You will receive the seamless repeat block in the form of a high resolution JPG file, typically 7200 pixels in width (24 inches at 300 DPI). If your manufacturer requires a different file type, fill out a Design Change Request form and let me know so I can provide it to you.

How do I know what file type I need?

Your manufacturer can provide you with this information. If they use digital printing, typically a high resolution JPG file will suit their needs.

My manufacturer requires Pantone colors. Can you provide this?

Yes! After purchasing your license, fill out a Design Change Request form letting me know that you require Pantone colors & I will provide a callout sheet for you.

What if I need changes after I order a test print?

If after you receive samples from your manufacturer, you’d like to make adjustments to colors, fill out a Design Change Request form, and I’ll be happy to support you.

Can I see what the design looks like on a product?

Pattern Portal has mock-ups for each design to give you an idea of how it repeats across a surface.

Customization

Can I change the colors or scale of the design elements?

Yes! I can recolor or rescale the pattern repeat to whatever you’d like. These are small, quick changes and are included in the purchase of your license.

If you require any additional, more complex changes to the design, they will be assessed at my hourly rate of $100/hr.

Can I license additional colorways?

I’m happy to provide up to 3 colorways to you included in your initial licensing fee. Just fill out a Design Change Request form letting me know what you’d like. Any additional colorways will be provided for $50 each.

Can you create a custom design for me?

I’d love to collaborate with you! Email me at rachel@showherwork.com indicating that you are interested. I will send you more information about the process and work with you to create a project proposal.

Who will own the copyright to the custom design?

By default, custom designs will come with a perpetual usage license that’s exclusive to your business and the copyright will remain with Show Her Work LLC.

If you’d like to purchase the full copyright and design files, you may do so for an additional fee.

Due to the nature of this being a digital product, I do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges. All sales are final.
